We were delighted to be involved in the refurbishment and extension to the Cineworld complex in Ashford, Kent. This project completed in Q1 of 2022

The project involved

• The construction of timber oversteppings to ten existing auditoriums by installing ladder frames and joists and overboarding in plywood to existing seating areas to increase capacity, two of the auditoriums had curved steppings, the setting out processes were critical to ensure the finished dimensions were as per drawings to allow following on contractors to carry out there installs correctly. Within the 4DX auditorium we installed chipboard flooring to newly installed steel steppings to complete the deck, the IMAX auditorium had newly constructed concrete steppings and so works in there were minimal, a new gantry wall was formed in timber studwork and overboarded in ply with softwood capping finish,timber intermediate steps were installed to each side of the IMAX auditorium.

• All auditoriums had newly installed projector porthole screens, gantry walls extended in height due to the increased heights in the floor level from the construction of new steps and completed with softwood capping to finish, intermediate steps were constructed through the auditoriums to allow safe transitioning from each row and level of seating.

• New NFR doorsets were installed to public toilet areas and new FD60 doorsets were installed to back of house, fire escape routes and circulation areas with associated ironmongery therto. Softwood skirtings were installed to newly formed areas within the concourse.

The full refurbishment was carried out while the cinema remained operational. To minimize impact during the pandemic, the work was executed in four phases and included the installation of a new concession counter, foyer area, and Starbucks Cafe.
